STD’s Overview

Dermatitis is a general term for conditions that cause inflammation of the skin. Examples include atopic dermatitis (eczema), contact dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff). These conditions cause red rashes, dry skin and itchiness among other symptoms.

Symptoms

The main symptom is a rash that typically appears on the arms and behind the knees, but can also appear anywhere. 

  • A red rash.
  • Itching, which may be severe.
  • Dry, cracked, scaly skin.
  • Bumps and blisters, sometimes with oozing and crusting.
  • Swelling, burning or tenderness.
  • Itch.
  • Dry, sensitive skin.
  • Inflamed, discolored skin.
  • Rough, leathery or scaly patches of skin.
  • Oozing or crusting.
  • Areas of swelling.
